Level III - Developing Skills

Level III has been designed to address the needs of the individual who has an interest in doing one-on-one biblical counseling. This class completes the didactic portion of the biblical counselor training at CLM. Small group discussions are conducted to help blend this didactic information with practical application in simulated counseling situations. Some of the topics discussed include:

Character of the Counselor
Question-Asking
Total Communication - Verbal & Nonverbal
Treatment Goals & Plans
Motivation & Maintenance
Professional Ethics
Case Studies

Completion of self-study assignments are required following the seminar portion of this level for those who would want to progress to Level IV (apprenticeship). The current reading list consists of 18 books written by a variety of authors on counseling related topics. Some of these materials are available only at the CLM office. This level also expands on biblical counseling principles through the viewing of four videotape series and listening to one audiotape series from other biblical counseling centers in the US. It is estimated that the typical student will spend one year to fully complete this level of training.

Sit-in experience begins at this level of training where the qualified student is invited to observe counseling sessions conducted by CLM staff.

Level III also requires participation in one Inductive Bible Study.
